If your credit cards have been lost or stolen - REPORT IT AT ONCE
I
n case you have lost your credit card or Mobile phone, or in case of theft you should contact your nearest Police Station.
Please remember, that if you do not have a Police report or a document showing that you have reported the incident, you will have a problem with your Insurance Company when tying to make a claim for compensation.
Please remember, that if you delay to report the loss of your cards you may be liable for any losses or damages this may cause, and your bank can refuse to cover your loss.
Credit Cards
The Institution in Portugal which deals with stolen or lost credit cards is called SIBS (Sociedade Interbancaria de Servicos)
You should report a stolen or lost credit card as soon as possible using the following Telephone Numbers.
If your credit card was issued in Portugal use: 217 813 080 or 808 201 251.
It could be helpful if you have someone who can speak Portuguese just in case the operator does not understand English. However most people working on help lines are bilingual and do speak sufficient English to understand your request for help. You should have your credit card details in front of you when making the call.
If your credit card was issued outside of Portugal use the following number:
For an American Express Credit Card the number to call is: 214 270 400
If you have a Visa Credit Card the number to call is: 800 811 107
For Matstercard the number to call is: 800 811 272
Mobile Phones
If your Mobile phone has been lost or stolen you should contact your Mobile Phone Company at once, so that your phone can be disconnected as soon as possible. You should always make a note of your mobile telephone number, PUK number and Sim card number since you will need these details when speaking to your Mobile Phone Company
